What is Wild Side Melbourne?

Wild Side Melbourne is a locally owned small-group tour company offering day tours from Melbourne to the Great Ocean Road, Grampians National Park, Phillip Island and Wilsons Promontory. We focus on nature, wildlife and relaxed travel.

What makes Wild Side Melbourne different from other tour companies?

We run small groups instead of large buses. This allows flexible timing, more wildlife and photo stops, and a friendlier, less rushed experience.

Are your tours suitable for all ages?

Our tours suit most travellers aged 7+. Some walking is involved at scenic stops, and many tours have easier alternatives.

Do you run tours all year round?

Yes. Tours operate year-round. Weather may adjust the itinerary for safety and viewing conditions.

How do I book a tour?

You can book online through our website. Instant confirmation is provided after payment.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. Small-group tours often sell out, especially on weekends and during peak seasons.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept major credit and debit cards via secure online checkout.

Can I change or cancel my booking?

Please refer to our Terms & Conditions for cancellation and change policies.

Where do tours depart from?

Tours depart from selected Melbourne CBD pick-up points. Exact details are provided after booking.

What type of vehicle do you use?

We use modern, air-conditioned small-group vehicles designed for comfort and scenic travel.

How long are the tours?

Most day tours run approximately 10–13 hours, depending on destination and conditions.

How many people are in each tour group?

Our tours are capped at small group sizes, allowing a relaxed pace, easier wildlife spotting and personal attention.

Light snacks and drinks are provided. Meals are not included unless stated, and we stop where you can buy food.

Do you accommodate dietary requirements?

We do our best to accommodate common dietary requirements during snack and meal stops.

Will we see wildlife on the tour?

Wildlife sightings are very likely but never guaranteed because animals are in their natural environment. Common sightings include kangaroos, wallabies, birds, koalas and penguins on select tours.

Does the Phillip Island tour include the Penguin Parade?

Yes. The Phillip Island tour includes viewing the Penguin Parade, subject to seasonal conditions and park regulations.

Do penguins come every night?

Yes. Penguins return to shore around sunset at Phillip Island. Numbers vary by season and conditions, often around 300 to 1,500+.

Can I do the Great Ocean Road in one day?

Yes. A day tour covers the major highlights efficiently, though exploring every location along the coast would take multiple days.

Is winter bad for tours?

No. Winter can be excellent with fewer crowds and stronger waterfalls. We adjust the itinerary to weather conditions.

Will I see kangaroos in the wild?

There is a high chance on some routes, but wildlife is never guaranteed. If sightings are unlikely, we may suggest an optional wildlife park stop.

Is the 5km Mount Oberon walk hard?

It is moderate: not easy, but manageable for most people with normal health and mobility. We walk at a relaxed pace and nobody is rushed.

Are tours tiring for older travellers?

They can be adapted. Many tours offer shorter walking options or alternative stops depending on the destination.

What happens if it rains?

Tours usually run in rain. We adjust stop order and timing where possible. Only severe weather conditions may cause cancellation.

Comfortable shoes, a jacket, water and a camera/phone are recommended. Victoria’s weather can change quickly.

Are there bathroom stops?

Yes. We make regular bathroom stops throughout the day.

Can I join if I travel alone?

Yes. Many guests are solo travellers and small groups are naturally social.

Is it better to rent a car or join a tour?

Renting a car gives freedom but you’ll focus on driving. A tour lets you relax, learn about the area and improves chances of spotting wildlife.

Who should NOT join this tour?

Travellers wanting luxury coach seating, minimal driving or zero walking may prefer a private tour instead.

Is hotel pick-up available?

We use selected Melbourne CBD pick-up points to keep timing reliable. Your exact pick-up details are sent after booking.

Are there long drives?

Yes. These are day trips from Melbourne, so driving is part of the day. We break up the journey with regular scenic stops.

Can I bring my own food?

Yes. You’re welcome to bring snacks or lunch, and we also stop where you can buy food.

Do you offer private tours?

Yes. Private and custom tours may be available on request.
